I'm happy to forward this information from Justice for All about disability-related programs and stories in the media. For those of you familiar with Bob Enteen's radio program "Disability and Health Today,"LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS is the program's new name and may indicate a broader focus. LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS also is "Webcast" at the following URL:
http://www.thriveonline.com/health/lwl.index.html

At that site, there is more information about Bob, the program and how to get the audio software you need to hear the program. (I believe the software is free.) --Laura

Disability On TV and Radio

Not only are the national media realizing there is a "disability market" but people with disabilities are creating the marketplace! Here, in their own words, is info on a television series and two great radio shows. And we have a lead to an article on our friend and leader, Justin Dart.

1. BEYOND AFFLICTION
2. LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS
3. ON A ROLL RADIO
4. DART IN MAINSTREAM

1. BEYOND AFFLICTION: The Disability History Project is a series of four one-hour programs distributed by National Public Radio.

Straight Ahead Pictures and National Public Radio are pleased to announce BEYOND AFFLICTION: The Disability History Project, the story of disability in the United States, told as it has never been told before: in a historical context. Laurie Block, series' creator, host and producer, takes us on an intriguing journey to uncover the common history shared by people with the full spectrum of disabilities and their families since the Civil War. NPR's Talk of the Nation will broadcast related coverage, part of which will be hosted by John Hockenberry. As the name suggests, BEYOND AFFLICTION is designed to move the general public BEYOND the "Affliction myth" and into a more authentic perception of disability community reality, past and present.

BEYOND AFFLICTION: The Disability History Project is scheduled for broadcast in May 1998. For information contact:

2. LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS:
WEEKLY RADIO SHOW DEDICATED TO DISABILITY ISSUES

LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS was developed, and is hosted by Dr. Bob Enteen, a national authority on disability, chronic illness and aging, and the author of the book "Health Insurance, How to Get It, Keep It, or Improve What You've Got." The program is currently broadcast on more than 25 stations across the country. Included in the station line-up are community, university, and hospital stations, and subscribing stations of the Radio Reading Services. And the list continues to grow each week. To date, more than 150 shows have been broadcast, featuring over 700 of the nation's leading experts on disability and aging issues, including members of Congress and the Clinton Administration, grass-roots organizers, activists, renowned educators, researchers and entertainers. In describing the program, Dr. Enteen said, "LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS is an important source of information for the 54 million people with disabilities, and one of the most effective tools they have to raise awareness of issues surrounding public education, governmental
policy, employment, and lifestyle."

3. ON A ROLL RADIO: Talk Radio on Life & Disability
On A Roll host Greg Smith, featured in the April issue of New Mobility Magazine, has muscular dystrophy. He weighs just 65 pounds. He's also a father, husband and nationally syndicated radio host. This is not your standard syndicated weekend radio show. We're offering radio stations a huge opportunity for revenue, community accolades, media coverage and industry recognition. All with the addition of a one or two hour slot on your weekend lineup. The show is called On A Roll - Talk Radio on Life, Disability & Human Potential. It's not a boring community service show and it's not for public radio. We entertain before we educate, enlighten and motivate. Guests are all dynamic and energetic. Callers present a new perspective on life that non-disabled general talk radio listeners cling to as "different." The disability population is larger than most people think. Roughly 20% have some kind of ADA defined disability.
