Events Calendar
November 5, 1999 -- Three
specialists donated their time to us! We
were very pleased to present this special event, which featured
three wonderful physician guests: Dr, Robert D. Harbaugh,
neurologist, Dr. L. David McDermid, psychiatrist, and Dr. Timothy
M. Spiegel, rheumatologist. Open house was 6:30 - 7:00 PM; event
was at the Ashton Education Center, 7:00 PM. ; free and open to
the public. Thanks to all of you who attended and helped make
this a great forum!
-
July 9, 1999 --
Dr. Timothy Spiegel, rheumatologist, answered a lot of
your rheumatic disease questions! And FOOD was provided by Wyeth-Ayerst
Pharmaceuticals! Meeting was at Dr. Spiegel's new office:
221 W. Pueblo St., Ste. B, Santa Barbara, CA, 93105.
Time: 7:00 PM.
-
October 1, 1998 --
Researchers from University of CA, San Francisco
- came to the Santa Barbara area to
describe studies designed to identify genes linked to
lupus and rheumatoid arthritis!
-
- After the presentation, a number of people (including
yours truly) had a cheek swab done to provide DNA. It did
not hurt at all! All they did was brush the inside of my
cheek gently for 30 seconds, then put the brush end in a
small bottle with solution for transport. Easy!
More donors are greatly needed. Anyone with lupus
or RA, or who has a family member (blood relative) with
lupus or RA, please call the toll-free number and learn
how you can contribute your DNA. It is very easy; UCSF
sends you everything you need; you will be a big part of
finding the cause and cure for these diseases.
Call this number: (toll-free) 1-888-223-3067! A voice
mail will answer. Select the option for the project
manager, Jennifer Bardsley!
-

much-requested, popular rheumatologist and author of The Lupus Book
and Dubois' Lupus
Erythematosus came to speak to us.
After his talk, many people wanted to make appointments
with him, so we'll give you his office info:

Thank you for
the break...
- Our regular January monthly meeting, usually held
the second Wednesday, at 7:00 P.M., was cancelled for
this month. The "flu" sure was going around!
The weather made travel difficult. And...a lot of you
were pretty worn out after the holidays.
We had a good medical
talk about...
- "THOSE ACHING FEET"
Foot Problems in
Rheumatic Disease
- Guest Speaker: Dr. Greg Aposperis,
Podiatrist,
from the Santa Barbara
Foot Clinic

time to help us with a common concern. Many who wanted to
attend missed the meeting due to flu, so a copy of the handout presented at this meeting is available
here.
We appreciated the
turnout at this medical forum...
- "THREE WISE
RHEUMATOLOGISTS"

donated their time.
