Awareness
Days, Weeks, and Months for the Rheumatic Diseases
Some special times to advocate for the
rheumatic diseases are during designated awareness events. Many
times these commemorative periods are associated with special
events, such as patient and public education programs. Volunteers
are often needed to distribute publicity, and this is an
excellent time to contact and inform your legislators about
issues you face dealing with a rheumatic disease, caring for
someone with an RD or treating patients with RDs (for example,
government allocations for research funds, access to health care,
health insurance, managed care, taxes, employment concerns,
Americans with Disabilities Act, and disability program stuff!)
Often these awareness are scheduled at
the same time or near the same time on a yearly basis. Click on
the links for more information. Please let us know of additions
or links we should add to the following list:
March 2 - 8, Juvenile Arthritis
Awareness Week
April,
Sjogren's Syndrome Awareness Month
May 12, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
May,
Arthritis Month
October,
Lupus Awareness Month
